Looking Back: UN Open Source Week 2025
"Open source technologies are not just tools; they are building blocks for inclusive development, transparent governance, and shared innovation." — Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Permanent Representative of Italy to the UN
The 2025 edition combined hands-on hackathons (81 participants, 21 teams building climate tools for UNICEF), an Edit-A-Thon that generated 2 million Wikipedia views, a Maintain-A-Thon with 40+ maintainers, the third annual OSPOs for Good track, an inaugural DPI Day co-hosted by the Dominican Republic and Nigeria, and a Community Day with 20 sessions across 5 tracks hosted at PwC New York. The series grew from a small 2023 gathering to the OSPOs for Good 2024 symposium (July 9–10, 2024) before expanding to a full week in 2025. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (opens in new tab).
